Vandaag vertrokken we weer om 09.05 uur naar Magic Kingdom. De bus zette ons weer af bij Epcot en vandaar togen wij met de monorail naar Magic Kingdom. Vanaf het monorailstation werden we met een ferry-boot naar de ingang van het park gebracht. Sta je daar op je dooie gemakkie boven op het dek van het uitzicht in het zonnetje te genieten, staat ineens Pluto naast je. Dat is een vreemde maar wel een hele leuke gewaarwording.
Magic Kingdom kenden we natuurlijk al van de drie bezoeken aan Parijs, maar toch is het hier weer anders. ’t Leukste is toch wel de Disney-figuren die je te pas en te onpas tegenkomt. En niet te vergeten natuurlijk de parades.
Reeds een uur voor aanvang van die parades word je door Disney geadviseerd een goed plekkie te bemachtigen. ’t Is dan zo’n 35 graden en je zit in de volle zon. Nou dan begint het commerciële circus pas echt. Eerst komt het ijskarretje langs. Je zit heel gezellig, dus alle papa’s en mama’s trakteren hun klierende kinderen op ijs. Het smelt natuurlijk onder je handen weg, de kinderen zitten helemaal onder en hebben het warm.
Vervolgens komt er dan een karretje dat een soort plantenspuiten verkoopt. Weliswaar in Disney-uitvoering en dat kost je toch al gauw
$ 15,00. Maar je wordt gek van je zeurende kinderen en je koopt er dan gauw twee, want anders krijgen je twee kinderen ruzie. Na tien minuten is je fles leeg en het nieuwe is eraf, je moet dan nog een half uur wachten en dan komt er een karretje met frisdranken.
Ook hier neem je snel wat van, als die kinderen hun kop maar houden. Je bent dan al een half weeksalaris kwijt en je hebt nog steeds geen parade gezien. Overigens dit bovenstaande gold niet voor de kinderen in ons midden.
Maar eindelijk is het dan zover, de muziek schalt uit de geluidsboxen en de mooiste wagens met alle Disney-figuren trekken aan je voorbij. Walt Disney heeft z’n doel bereikt. Je voelt je weer kind, ook al ben je misschien al tachtig jaar.
De drie jongsten in ons gezelschap togen naar de meest spectaculairste attracties, Big Thunder Mouintain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain (zelfs Edwin liet zich hiertoe overhalen).
Met z’n vijven bezochten we The Haunted Mansion, veel leuker dan in Parijs, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pirates of the Carribean en natuurlijk It’s a small world. Drie dagen later heb je het liedje nog in je hoofd, maar dat mocht de pret niet drukken.
Ook bezochten we nog een aantal shows en The Hall of Presidents. In een soort wassenbeeldenmuseum staan daar alle presidenten van Amerika die om de beurt iets te vertellen hebben. Bill Clinton en de huidige president Bush waren bij de Amerikanen de favorieten. Toen zij aan het woord waren, dachten we dat het dak eraf vloog van het gejuich.
Om 19.00 uur zou het park sluiten, dus voor vertrek nog even winkelen in Mainstreet. Dat is toch wel heel erg leuk, vooral de suikerspinnen vonden bij de twee meisjes gretig aftrek gedurende ons hele verblijf in Orlando.
Met de shuttlebus vertrokken we weer naar ons hotel. We besloten weer bij our favorite Ponderosa te gaan eten. We hadden die dag zoveel gelopen dat we besloten de I-trolley te nemen. Een trammetje die de hele International Drive afrijdt en stopt als je aan een touw bij het raam hebt getrokken. We zaten nog geen twee minuten of we waren al bij Ponderosa aangekomen. Na heerlijk te hebben gegeten, besloten we naar ons hotel terug te lopen.
Moe maar zeer voldaan vielen we meteen in slaap.
