Om 09.05 uur namen we de shuttlebus naar het enige Disneypark dat wij nog niet hadden bezocht MGM-studios. Het was deze hele dag ontzettend warm en onwijs druk op dit park.
Dit park is niet zo groot. Wel fantastische attracties, zoals The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Een toren met een lift erin. Je stapt in de lift en gaat zitten. De lift brengt je dan in no time naar boven om vervolgens met een vreselijke vaart naar beneden te storten.
Celeste was de enige in ons gezelschap die deze uitdaging aandurfde. De 3D show van de Muppets vonden wij allen niet zo spectaculair, maar het allermooiste was toch wel The Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour. Hier maak je kennis met de decors die gebruikt zijn in vele speelfilms.
Verder bezochten we Star Tours en The Voyage of The Little Mermaid. Marsha en Celeste togen nogmaals in de flitsende rollercoaster Rock ’n Roll Starring Aerosmith.
Ook in dit park werd een parade gehouden. Hier werd je tijdens het wachten op de parade geamuseerd door vele artiesten. Bijvoorbeeld een ventje die met allerlei verschillende ballonnen Donald Duck fabriceerde. Als diner namen we op dit park een overheerlijk pizza en waterijs als toetje.
Ter afsluiting werd in MGM-studios een wervelende laser en watershow, Fantasmic, gepresenteerd waar alle Disney-figuren acte de présence gaven.
En toen gebeurde hetgeen waarvoor Chris altijd al bang voor was geweest. We misten de shuttlebus naar ons hotel. Het was inmiddels 21.55 uur toen we op de parkeerplaats aankwamen,terwijl we wisten dat de bus om 21.45 uur zou vertrekken. Achteraf is het natuurlijk geweldig. Maar op dat moment moet je even je fantasie gebruiken.
Het bleek dat wij niet de enige vijf waren die de bus hadden gemist. Er was ook nog een ander stel dat in dezelfde omstangheid verkeerde. Zij kwamen uit het land van Maxima. En natuurlijk moest Marianne daar even melding van maken.
Die arme stakkers hadden nog nooit van Maxima gehoord, maar toen Marianne vertelde dat zij met een heuse prins, de kroonprins van Nederland, getrouwd was, ging er een lichtje bij hen branden (of niet natuurlijk en dachten zij laat dat mens maar ……..).
We stonden nog steeds op het parkeerterrein en Marianne zou bij het Infocenter wel een taxi regelen. Er bleek alleen buiten het Disney terrein een taxistandplaats te zijn, een minuutje of tien lopen. De rit zou zo’n $ 40,00 voor 5 personen bedragen. Maar we hadden natuurlijk die Argentijnen in onze kielzog.
Op het Florida-forum door ons wekenlang voor vertrek naar de States geraadpleegd, werd de toerist in Amerika vele malen duidelijk gemaakt dat je geen gebruik moet maken van een illegale taxi. Ze zijn veel te duur en veel belangrijker, bij een ongeluk ben je niet verzekerd.
Maar ja, je hebt de hele dag in die warme zon gezwalkt van de ene naar de andere attractie en je bent bekaf en dan sta je ineens oog in oog met een taxichauffeur (van een illegale taxi) die je met zijn bus, geschikt voor zeven personen wel naar je hotel wilt brengen. Tja dan is de keus niet zo moeilijk en zeker ook niet als Marianne het voor elkaar heeft gekregen dat die chauffeur ons zevenen naar twee verschillende hotels voor maar $ 30,00 wil brengen.
Prinsheerlijk waren we binnen een halfuurtje, na eerst die twee anderen te hebben afgezet, veilig in ons hotel. Vlug voor het slapen nog even een biertje en de film van deze dag terugkijken en hup je bed in.
