Wederom waren we vandaag weer vroeg uit de veren. Ditmaal hebben we gekozen om te ontbijten in het centrum Merida. Of dit een goede keuze is geweest…? Niet dus! We kozen bij een tentje voor de croissants, deze zagen er wel lekker uit. Maar schijn bedriegt; ze waren erg droog. Gelukkig hadden we lekkere jus om ze mee weg te spoelen.
Na het ontbijt hebben we uitgecheckt en zijn we de auto ingestapt, op weg naar het volgende punt van onze route. Vandaag rijden we naar Uxmal. De wegen hier naar toe zijn stukken beter. En met ruim een uur rijden waren we op de plaats van bestemming. Dit dorpje, bestaande uit twee hotels en enkele mayatempels, was de plek waar we ons vandaag moesten. Zoals je waarschijnlijk al kan raden was dit erg moeilijk. Na een uurtje door het mayagebied te hebben gewandeld, in de bloedhitte, waren we er al weer klaar mee. We besloten om de middag door te brengen bij het zwembad van het hotel. Wat ook wel eens lekker kan zijn.
Voor het avondeten hadden we vandaag niet veel keuze; het restaurant bij ons hotel of het restaurant bij het andere hotel. We kozen de makkelijkste weg en bleven in ons eigen hotel om te dineren.
Voor de avond hadden we ditmaal wel een echte planning. Namelijk een lichtshow in het mayagebied. Alle tempels en andere gebouwen worden verlicht met kleurrijke lampen en er wordt een verhaal verteld. Helaas is het verhaal in het spaans. Aangezien ons spaans niet zo goed is, kunnen wij niet alles begrijpen. We besloten om voortijdig de show te verlaten en weer terug te keren naar het hotel. Dit was een goede keuze, want op het moment dat wij aan tafel aanschuiven om wat te drinken, komt de regen weer met bakken uit de lucht vallen.
Vanavond maar lekker bij de bar wat drinken en wat internetten. En morgen weer op naar onze volgende bestemming…
