Op dinsdag 5 april 2011 vierde Mary Poppins op een ’toffe’ manier haar eerste verjaardag. Om dit heuglijk feit te vieren hebben Noortje Herlaar (Mary Poppins), William Spaaij (Bert), Hugo Haenen (George Banks) en Steve Beirnaert (Jonathan Been) samen met de pers getoost op 15 meter hoogte in de lucht. Door middel van een hijskraan werd een lunchtafel tot boven het theater gehesen.
Voor Noortje is vliegen dagelijkse kost. Aan het eind van de show zweeft ze door de zaal, waar ze regelmatig emotioneel van wordt. Voor William mocht het toosten wat spannender. Hij had graag gezien dat de tafel over de kop ging.
Noortje geniet nog steeds van de show en is er nog lang niet klaar mee. “Ik hoop dat we de miljoen gaan halen de komende maanden.”
Volgens Noortje is de rol van Mary Poppins geweldig om te spelen. “In deze rol zit alles wat ik wil vertellen als actrice en als Noortje. Daarom ben ik heel blij dat ik deze kans heb gekregen”, zegt Noortje. Het hoogtepunt van het jaar is volgens Noortje toch wel dat ze in haar onderbroek op het toneel heeft gestaan.
De redenen om de musical Mary Poppins niet te missen: “De musical heeft alle ingrediënten: het spektakel, de emotie, het verhaal, het decor, de kostuums, goede zang, leuke nummers, vrolijkheid, maar ook de traan. Kortom, de combinatie van alles. En dat vind je niet veel meer. Dat vind ik de reden dat iedereen de musical gezien moet hebben”, aldus William Spaaij.
