Jamai is heel erg blij om met de productie Maria! weer terug te zijn in het M-Lab. “Het is te gek. Ik vind het heerlijk. Toen ik gebeld werd zei ik ook meteen ‘ja’. Ik vind het zo lekker werken hier. Het is heel fijn om als acteur hier te werken. Het is lekker afgesloten van de buitenwereld en je kan hier ongegeneerd je gang gaan. Dat is heel fijn.”
“Het M-Lab geeft je het gevoel dat je veel meer durft, omdat je niet af kan gaan. Je staat naakter, waardoor mensen veel sympathieker zijn. En daardoor kan je veel meer dingen uitproberen. Dat is fijn.”
De repetities van Maria! zijn ruim een week bezig. Jamai staat in deze productie met mensen waar hij nog niet ieder mee heeft samengewerkt. “Het gaat heel erg goed. Omdat je maar met z’n vieren bent. De afgelopen jaren heb ik alleen maar in kleine clubjes gestaan, wat ik heel fijn vind. Toen ik Joseph deed moest ik weer wennen dat je met veel mensen speelt. Maar ik merk dat als je met een klein groepje bent dat irritaties veel minder zijn, omdat je meteen dingen uitspreekt.”
Wat we van Jamai kunnen verwachten in Maria! is hem nog niet helemaal duidelijk. “Ik ben er nog niet achter. Ik speel verschillende rollen. Dus ik denk dat dat heel interessant wordt.” Wel kan Jamai samenvatten wat Maria! inhoudt: “Het is een docu meets klassiek, een romantisch verhaal. Eigenlijk van alles en nog wat. Het is heel erg grappig en het zit vol met nummers die iedereen kent en dat is heel erg leuk. Voor een musicalliefhebber is het een musical waar je naar toe moet gaan.”
