Om 7 uur in de ochtend (Nederlandse tijd) staan papa en mama voor de deur om ons naar Schiphol te brengen. De koffers staan er deels klaar voor. Nadat de laatste spulletjes in de koffers zijn gestopt, zijn we klaar voor vertrek.
Al redelijk snel deze vakantie stuiten we op het eerste probleem: we zijn te zwaar! Edwin had thuis zijn koffer, exclusief z’n toilettas, gewogen. Hij kon mij melden dat zijn koffer 23 kg was en dat mijn koffer minder woog. Ik hoefde mij dus geen enkele zorgen te maken. Helaas…op het moment dat mijn koffer op de bagageband werd gezet, gaf de weegschaal 24 kg aan. Bij de koffer van Edwin gaf de weegschaal 30 kg aan. Wat heeft hij dat in hemelsnaam in zijn koffers?? We snappen er niet veel van, aangezien ik mijn hele zomergarderobe in mijn koffer heb gegooid en Edwin een stuk minder. Toch besloten we om maar eens een kijkje te gaan nemen in de koffer en het één en ander naar de handbagage over te gooien. Ok, we hebben wat kilo’s snoep mee, maar dat blijkt uiteindelijk maar 4 kg te zijn. We besluiten nogmaals onze te zware koffers af te gooien, hopelijk wordt er niets van gezegd. Jammer genoeg blijken onze koffers nog te zwaar. De eerst €75 was dus snel uitgegeven!
De reis duurde, voor mij, weer veel te lang. Elf uur lang op een stoel stilzitten is niet echt iets voor mij. We hadden het geluk dat wij drie stoelen voor ons tweeën hadden, waardoor ik op heel veel diverse manier kon gaan zitten/liggen. Maar dit neemt niet weg dat het oncomfortabel blijft.
Eénmaal geland op Los Angeles moeten wij even geduld hebben voordat we het land daadwerkelijk in mogen. Na diverse rijen en flink wat minuten wachten kunnen we eindelijk aan onze eerste Starbucks Coffee.
Aangezien we zelf van hotel naar hotel gaan rijden, hebben wij een auto gehuurd. Deze kunnen we op het vliegveld ophalen. Het is een Volkswagen geworden.
Zittend in de auto en de kaarten in mijn hand. Kunnen we op weg naar ons eerste hotel. Het is even zoeken waar we op de kaart zijn, maar dat éénmaal gevonden te hebben, bereiken we ons eerste hotel heel snel.
Nadat we zijn ingecheckt en de koffers op de kamer hebben gezet, gaat ons eerste uitstapje beginnen. We gaan naar Los Angeles Down Town. Wellicht (en hopelijk) omdat het zondag is, is hier niet zo heel veel te beleven. We hebben een rondje gelopen door het centrum en mooie gebouwen gezien.
Aangezien het bijna etenstijd is, besluiten we terug te gaan naar het hotel. Eerst nog even langs de supermarkt om wat flesjes water in te slaan en dan op naar het eerste fastfoodrestaurant van de vakantie: Popeyes.
Na het eten besluiten we maar onze hotelkamer op te zoeken. Aangezien het eigenlijk voor ons al midden in de nacht is (terwijl het 19.00u lokale tijd is) zijn we eigenlijk best moe. Aangezien we op bed een beetje aan het inkakken zijn, besluiten we om 20.00u het licht maar uit te doen en onze ogen dicht…
