Na een pauze van enkele weken, betreft de Nederlandse musicals, mag ik vanavond eindelijk weer gaan genieten van het Nederlandse talent. Ik ga voor het eerst naar de musical Miss Saigon. De voorgaande versie heb ik nooit gezien, dus ik weet totaal niet wat ik kan verwachten. Uiteraard ken ik het verhaal een beetje en een aantal liedjes zijn mij ook bekend. Maar voor de rest zal ik mij laten verrassen.

Wat een prachtige musical is Miss Saigon. Totaal iets anders dan dat ik het afgelopen jaar heb gezien. Het is een heel mooi verhaal wat op sommige momenten tranen in mijn ogen heeft veroorzaakt. De gehele musical wordt gezongen, maar dit heeft absoluut geen negatieve invloed.
Ton speelt de rol van Chris vol passie. Zijn stem is mooi om naar te luisteren en alles wat hij zingt komt over zo als het bedoelt wordt.
Na-Young, als Kim, is ook geweldig. Zij speelt de rol met heel veel gevoel, waardoor je heel goed met har meeleeft. Aan haar zang moest ik wel even wennen. Sommige stukken komen er wat schreeuwerig uit, maar het blijft wel mooi.
De regelaar wordt gespeeld door Stanley. Stanley is vaak heel slecht te verstaan, waardoor ik sommige stukken van de musical mis. Dit vind ik heel jammer. Verder is zijn spel onwijs goed en is duidelijk te zien dat hij een zeer ervaren musicalartiest is.
De rol van Thuy wordt gespeeld door Kok-Hwa Lie. Hij is de enige acteur de zo duidelijk articuleert dat daadwerkelijk alles wat hij zingt heel erg goed te verstaan is. Daarnaast vind ik dat hij zijn rol met heel veel overgave speelt.
Edwin speelt de rol van John. John heeft mij totaal geraakt met het nummer ‘Bui Doi’. Dit nummer brengt hij prachtig, waardoor ik een brok ik m’n keel kreeg.
Brigitte, als Ellen, is heel mooi. De rol van Ellen is niet heel groot, maar weet toch een hoop los te maken. Tevens is haar zang heel fijn en lief om naar te luisteren.
Het is erg jammer dat het toneel gedurende de show bijna geheel donker is en alleen de ‘belangrijke’ personen in de spotlight worden gezet. Ik vind het namelijk fijn om naar het ensemble te kijken. Bij Miss Saigon is het moeilijk om de gezichtsuitdrukkingen van het ensemble te zien. Hetgeen wat ik wel heb meegekregen was erg goed.
Het is erg leuk om een hoop onbekende gezichten in een musical te zien. Hopelijk ga ik in deze musical weer een hoop understudy’s zien spelen.
