Het M-Lab theater heeft weer een nieuwe musical: Grand Hotel. De try outs vonden plaats in het M-Lab Theater, maar de ‘echte’ voorstellingen vinden plaats in Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam.

In de musical Grand Hotel lopen diverse verhaallijnen door elkaar. Verhalen van de gasten van Grand Hotel de komen en die gaan. Elizaveta is een beroemd ballet danseres, die volgens haarzelf aan het eind van haar carriere zit en wil stoppen met dansen. Haar persoonlijk assistent Raffaela begeleidt haar al jaren en draagt al die jaren een geheim met haar mee. Otto, de boekhouder, komt zijn laatste geld in Grand Hotel uitgeven aangezien hij door ziekte stervende is. Kolonel Dokter is hier jaloers op, want hij is in Grand Hotel aan het wachten op de dood en kan wat hem betreft niet snel genoeg komen. Hermann is directeur, maar staat op het punt failliet te gaan en probeert dit vanuit Grand Hotel te redden. Felix is een stereotype bezoeker van Grand Hotel, aangezien hij baron is. Alleen heeft hij niet meer het fortuin van een baron en probeert in het hotel aan geld te komen. Flaemmchen komt in het hotel voor het spelen van typiste, maar wil doorbreken als ster in Hollywood.
Het decor is eenvoudig door geen gebruik te maken van decorstukken. Wel is de musical 360 graden, aangezien zowel voor als achter, naast en door het publiek gespeeld wordt. Dit is erg apart, maar tegelijkertijd ook hinderlijk. De hele show moeten draaien met je hoofd is vervelend. Vooral het feit dat het decor niet hoog genoeg is, is af en toe een deel niet te zien.
Voor mij is Ad de topper van de show. Hij speelt zijn rol met volledige overgave en is gewoon gigantisch goed. Jetse trekt ook mijn volledige aandacht. Haar verschijning is erg mooi en speelt heel fijn. Haar solo ‘kijk, die meid in de spiegel’ laat zien dat zij een aanstormend talent is waar wij hopelijk nog veel van gaan horen en zien. Tevens zijn mijn ogen gericht op Celinde Schoenmaker. Zij zal de hoofdrol gaan spelen in de nieuwe productie van Stage Entertainment, Ghost. Jamai is met zijn stem gewoonweg heerlijk om naar te luisteren.
Kortom, een prachtige musical die helaas weer veel te kort speelt…
