De ochtend begint met een beetje werken. Mijn nieuwe werkgever heeft een communation desk in Shanghai.
Om 10.00u word ik door mijn collega Jason opgehaald en samen gaan we met de metro naar Pudong, de wijk waar de desk is gevestigd. Als eerste kennis maken met al mijn Chinese collega’s en daarna even kletsen met Jason of het financiële gedeelte van hetgeen wat zich in Shanghai afspeelt.
Na ons gesprek brengt Jason mij naar de Oriental Tower. Gezien het feit dat het vandaag goed weer is en daardoor het uitzicht ook goed moet zijn, adviseert hij mij vandaag een bezoek te brengen aan de toren. Het was de bedoeling dat ik dit een keer samen met Edwin zou gaan doen rond zonsondergang, zodat we zowel met licht als met donker van het uitzicht konden genieten. Toch maar besloten om de uitdaging alleen aan te gaan.
Uitdaging? Ja!! De toren heeft namelijk op zeer hoge hoogte een glazen vloer. Gezien het feit dat mijn hoogtevrees, waar ik na het bezoek aan de CN tower in Toronto een beetje van af was, lichtelijk was terug gekomen, vond ik het toch wel spannend. Gelukkig kon ik eerst genieten van het uitzicht vanaf een normale etage, die een normale vloer had. Een etage lager bevindt zich de vloer van glas. Gelukkig kon ik eerst op een dichte vloer staan voordat ik mij ging begeven op het glas. Echt soepel ging het niet. Ik ben eerst rustig gaan zitten op de normale vloer en langzaam over het glas geschoven. Eénmaal de smaak te pakken ging het redelijk. Toch durf ik nog niet op de glazen vloer te staan, maar ik vond mijzelf al heel stoer!
Na het bezoek aan de tower ben ik rustig aan en met wat omwegen weer terug naar het hotel gelopen. Eénmaal ik mijn hotel was het 16.00u. Edwin die is pas rond 18.15u thuis. Wat zal ik eens gaan doen? Edwin gaf mij de tip om naar de fake market te gaan. Ok, dan doen we dat. Na drie winkels had ik het wel gezien. Het is een groot gebouw met daarin allemaal kleine ‘hokjes’ van drie bij vier meter (ongeveer). Ik heb zo’n twintig dezelfde ‘winkels’ gezien met stropdassen, met koffers, met horloges, met… Met andere woorden: ik had alleen maar die eerste vijf winkeltjes te hoeven zien en dan had ik wel een goed beeld van wat daar verkocht werd. Ach, wel weer een ervaring rijker.
Samen met Edwin ben ik ’s avonds naar de leukste schoenenwinkel van de wereld geweest. Edwin wist deze plek via een collega. Het is een winkel van zo’n tien meter lang en ik denk slechts twee meter breed. De wanden staan volledig vol met schoenen en schoenendozen. De schoenen zijn echt geweldig. Echte Marsha-schoenen. En het leukste van het verhaal: het kost echt helemaal niets. Het merk wat ik als eerste uitkoos had ook nog een aktie: tweede paar voor 50%. Tja, dat kan je dus niet laten liggen. Uiteindelijk liepen we met drie paar schoenen naar buiten voor in totaal 215 RMB (iets minder dan 27 euro).
We hebben daar in de buurt even wat gegeten en vervolgens zijn we naar Laura haar appartement gegaan om even te kijken hoe zij woont en gezellig te kletsen.
Toen het voor Edwin tijd was om naar bed te gaan hebben we de taxi teruggenomen naar het hotel.
