Vandaag vertrekken we naar Beijing. We staan vroeg op om met de metro naar het treinstation te gaan, waar we om 8.45u de trein hebben richting Beijing. De treinreis duurt in totaal 5,5 uur. Met de illusie dat we een heel mooi deel van China gaan zien stap ik de trein in. Helaas, het weer is erg mistig, zodat het zicht niet ver is en hetgeen wat wij zien is ook niet echt spannend. Dan maar even de binnenkant van mijn ogen bekijken.
Als we in Beijing zijn aangekomen pakken we een taxi naar het hotel. Het is hier best druk, dus het duurt even voordat we er zijn.
Als we eenmaal onze spullen op onze kamer hebben gedropt is het al 17.00u, tijd om Beijing te gaan verkennen. We lopen vanaf ons hotel naar een toeristische winkelstraat. Onderweg komen we hele mooie, grote gebouwen tegen. De wegen zijn hier trouwens ook echt bizar breed. Een ‘normale’ doorgaande weg door de stad telt hier in elke richting vijf rijbanen. Zouden een hoop Nederlandse steden een voorbeeld aan kunnen nemen… Ondanks dat Katie zingt over 9 miljoen fietsen moet ik jullie toch meegeven dat het erg echt niet zoveel zijn. Wellicht heeft zij zich vergist en de brommers ook als fietsen gerekend.
Ook Jos en Laura zijn momenteel in Beijing. Met hen gaan we de avond doorbrengen. Als eerste gaan we de beruchte Pekingeend eten. Helaas is het restaurant waar we willen eten vol. Dan maar even ergens een drankje doen, om later weer terug te komen.
De Pekingeend is werkelijk verrukkelijk. Wellicht toch nog een keer eten!
Na het eten willen we weer een keer karaoken. Inmiddels is het een beetje gaan regenen, dus de taxi’s zijn al schaars. Daarnaast vragen de eerste taxi’s die wij aanhouden een hoop voor de rit. Na een tijd hebben we een taxi gevonden die ons voor een schappelijke prijs naar een KTV (plek om te karaoken) wil brengen.
Na een gezellige avond is het tijd om afscheid te nemen van Jos en Laura. Jos die vliegt maandag weer naar huis. Wellicht zie ik Laura volgend weekend nog als ik weer terug ben in Shanghai.
