De wekker ging erg vroeg vanochtend voor een zaterdag. Om 9.00u werden we opgehaald door m’n vader die ons naar Schiphol zou brengen.
Het zou vandaag een lange dag moeten worden aangezien we 7 uur terug in de tijd gaan. Hierdoor verwacht je hoop spannende verhalen. Niets is minder waar. We hebben vandaag eigenlijk alleen maar in het vliegtuig gezeten. En wat een hel is dat. Voor de mensen die mij kennen weten dat ik niet makkelijk stil kan zitten en weinig geduld heb. Dan is een vlucht van 9,5 uur, een tussenstop op Cuba van 1 uur en dan nog een vlucht van 1 uur heel erg lang.
Eenmaal aangekomen in Mexico, om precies te zijn Cancun, hebben we direct onze huurauto opgehaald. Deze is iets kleiner dan ik in gedachten had. Maar we mogen niet klagen, als de achterbank naar beneden is geklapt kunnen onze koffers er makkelijk in.
Edwin had bij de eerste bocht al geconstateerd dat de auto geen stuurbekrachtiging bezit. Dus mocht je je afvragen als hij weer terug is in Nederland waar die spierballen opeens vandaan komen…
De reisorganisatie had meteen een leuk spel voor ons: “Zoek je eerste hotel!”. (Spel van niks, ik eet nog liever spinazie). Als we ons beter hadden voorbereid dan was dit spel een makkie geweest voor ons, maar helaas is dat niet het geval. We hebben aardig wat rondjes gereden, tot het moment dat er enkele verkeersovertredingen werden gemaakt door Edwin. We hebben een taxichauffeur gevraagd voor ons uit te rijden naar het hotel. Binnen 10 minuten stonden we met de auto voor de deur. Dit hadden we zelf nooit in deze tijd kunnen redden.
Momenteel is het hier 20.45u en zitten we in de lobby van het hotel een dranje te doen. Vanavond duiken we vroeg ons bed in, om morgen Mexico te gaan verkennen.
