Afgelopen woensdag 18 mei vond in het M-Lab de première plaats van Maria!. Maria! is de eerste musical van het festival 50 jaar musical in Nederland.
Maria! gaat over de dame Maria Stuart (Carolina Mout/Brigitte Heitzer) die herinneringen ophaalt uit haar verleden. Deze herinneringen vertelt ze aan Tony (Bill van Dijk) die een boek over haar aan het schrijven is, omdat ze een oeuvre award gaat ontvangen voor haar bijdrage in de musicalwereld. Het verhaal begint bij het begin, hoe ze haar eerste auditie doet en hoe ze in contact komt met Teunis (Jamai Loman).
Gedurende het verhaal wordt het publiek meegenomen door de diverse musicalklassiekers uit de jaren ’60. Deze klassiekers worden gepresenteerd in hun originele vorm, maar de context wordt volledig op z’n kop gezet.
Het decor is simpel opgezet, dat wil zeggen dat vier stoelen, twee barkrukken, twee trappen en een balkon gebruikt worden. Daarnaast zit de muzikale begeleiding (Frans Heemskerk) achter z’n piano op het toneel.
De vier acteurs zijn stuk voor stuk geweldige acteurs en zangers, maar vooral het samenspel van deze acteurs is goed. Vooral de twee jonkies (Brigitte en Jamai) vormen tijdens de duetten een zeer mooi koppel.
Tijdens deze musical worden verwezen naar een hoop gebeurtenissen en namen uit de Nederlandse musicalgeschiedenis. Zo worden namen als Ank van der Moer, Wim Sonneveld en Johan Heesters. Ook de huidige musicalsituatie wordt naar voren gebracht: Frits Sissing (Jamai Loman) die de Award Gala presenteert, de drukke weken van de musicalsterren door de 8 shows per week (zelfs werken met kerst en op nieuwjaarsdag) en de knipogen naar de diverse zoektochten en andere zangwedstrijden op televisie.
Kortom, het is een musical die zeer de moeite waard is om te bezoeken. Vooral als musicalliefhebber is het een feest van herkenning.
