Gelukkig hoeven we vandaag niet heel erg lang in de auto te zitten. We gaan namelijk naar Monterey en daarna door naar Santa Cruz.
Onderweg gaan we eerst nog even naar de Wal Mart. We zijn er vandaag achter gekomen dat er nep Wal Mart-en zijn in Amerika. Ook deze Wal Mart heeft maar heel erg weinig voedsel. Dus helaas weer geen vers fruit en cheesecake. Dan maar een koffie halen bij Starbucks.
Als we in Monterey zijn aangekomen gaan we op zoek naar dé shop. We weten namelijk dat we hier tochtjes kunnen maken over zee, waar we walvissen kunnen zien. Dit lijkt ons helemaal te gek. Dus we moeten wel zorgen dat we bij degene in de boot komen, zodat we dan ook echt daadwerkelijk de walvissen gaan zien. We hadden ons al een beetje voorbereid via internet, maar dat geeft natuurlijk geen garantie dat we de walvissen ook echt tegen gaan komen op het water. Het blijft dus gokken. In Las Vegas bleek dat we daar niet zo goed in waren, hopelijk hebben we vandaag meer geluk!!
We gaan heel ver de zee op totdat we opeens door de speaker te horen krijgen ‘one o’clock!’ Snel lopen we naar de andere kant van de boot en zien in het water een klein fonteintje. Dit is het water wat uit het gat op de kop van de walvis komt. Hoe vet!!! Het blijken er twee te zijn: moeder met kind. Echt geweldig om dit zo in het wild te zien!! Nadat we een aantal keren de ruggen en de staarten boven water hebben zien komen, komt moeder ook een aantal keren volledig uit het water springen. Het is niet te beschrijven hoe vet het is om dit in het echt te zien!!
Na een boottocht van 2,5 uur komen we weer teug in de haven. We besluiten even wat te gaan drinken voordat we weer op weg gaan naar ons volgende punt.
Het volgende punt is Santa Cruz. Gelukkig maar een ritje van 45 minuten. Toch krij ik het voor elkaar om weer in slaap te vallen tijdens de autorit. Ik ben gelukkig wel op tijd wakker (na ja, op tijd wakker gemaakt) om Edwin de juiste weg te wijzen.
In Santa Cruz zijn we naar het strand gegaan om een hapje te eten aan de boulevard. Aan deze boulevard is ook een park met attracties, zoals achtbanen. We besluiten dit na het eten te bezoeken. We hadden dit toch voor het eten moeten doen, want toen we klaar waren met eten was alles al dicht.
Dan gaan we maar terug naar het hotel. Lekker op bed een filmpje kijken is ook niet verkeerd. Het is immers vakantie.
