Vandaag gaan we een deel van San Francisco (SF) ontdekken. We hebben besloten (op advies van diverse anderen) dit deels op de fiets te doen. Om bij de fietsverhuur te komen moeten we eerst een stukje lopen. Misschien handig om uit te leggen dat SF bestaat uit een heleboel heuvels, dus we lopen op en af. Dit vergt al een hoop conditie (wat wij helaas niet hebben). Edwin had uitgezocht in welke straat we moesten zijn voor de fietsverhuur. Wellicht had ik heb ui moeten leggen dat de straten hier van oost naar west en van noord naar zuid dezelfde naam hebben. Een straat kan zo dus uit enkele kilometers bestaan. Jullie begrijpen wel wat er gebeurde…
Na een flinke wandeling van zuid naar noord en oost naar west en weer terug naar oost kwamen we een fietsverhuur tegen. We konden onze conditie dus op een andere manier gaan verbeteren. We gaan naar de Golden Gate Bridge. Ook hiervoor moesten we enkele heuvels beklimmen, maar het resultaat is geweldig. Het is echt een hele ervaring om met de fiets over de brug te gaan. Heel bizar was het dat de brug deels in de wolken hing.
Na het fietsen zijn we naar Fisherman’s Wharf gegaan. Daar hebben we rondgelopen en zijn ook op Pier 39 gegaan. Dit was heel gezellig met alle winkeltjes en tentjes. De zeeleeuwen moesten ook in grote getale aanwezig zijn bij Pier 39, maar dit viel een beetje tegen. Vooral in vergelijking met het aantal dat wij gezien hebben in Monterey.
In Fisherman’s Wharf hebben wij ook gegeten, waarna wij weer een flinke wandeling naar huis mochten maken. Maar eerst nog even langs de Safeway om ontbijt te scoren. Deze hebben wij namelijk niet in ons hotel.
Eenmaal terug in het hotel smeren we ons direct in met aftersun. We zijn namelijk flink verbrand. Ook gaan de beentjes omhoog, want die hebben wel wat rust verdiend na zo’n lange dag!
