Vanavond is de eerste try-out van Wicked in Nederland. Uiteraard ga ik daar naar toe. Met heel veel kriebels in mijn buik ga ik naar deze show. Ik ben zo nieuwsgierig hoe de Nederlandse versie zal zijn en hoe de Nederlandse acteurs het doen.Wat een prachtige show is Wicked. Ook in het Nederlands is deze musical fantastisch.
Ik begin maar met de topper van deze show: Willemijn. Aan Willemijn is duidelijk te zien dat zij deze rol al van binnen tot buiten kent (voor de niet-kenners, Willemijn was al Elphaba in Duitsland).
De strot die zij heeft is meesterlijk en haar spel is heerlijk om naar te kijken.
Chantal, in de rol van Glinda, is erg komisch. Ik was erg bang voor Chantal, omdat ik bij voorbaat niet echt het vertrouwen had dat ze het vocaal aan zou kunnen. Ze heeft me het tegendeel bewezen. Ze zingt werkelijk geweldig. Over de komische zijde van de rol van Glinda had ik wel alle vertrouwen en Chantal heeft bewezen dat ze dat ook als de beste kan.
Ook voor Jim was ik wat gespannen. De laatste keer dat ik hem zag in een musical was hij een jongetje dat probeerde te dansen in Hairspray. Jim is qua dans, maar vooral zang een volwassen man geworden. Hij is voor mij wel de grootste verrassing van de show (tot nu toe dan…).
De rol van Nessarose wordt gespeeld door Christanne. Van Christanne had ik voorheen nog nooit gehoord. Maar wow wat is zij goed. Ondanks dat ze een kleine rol heeft, zorgt ze er wel voor dat iedereen weet dat ze meedoet. Haar solo is verpletterend. Ook haar toneel spel is heel erg goed.
Niels, die de rol van Moq speelt, was ook een onbekende voor mij. Ik vind hem een zeer komische verschijning en speelt zijn rol onwijs goed.
Aan Pamela, die madam Akabar, speelt moest ik heel erg wennen. Haar zang naar mijn mening niet geheel van topkwaliteit en hierdoor niet geheel prettig om naar te luisteren. Ik zit met geknepen billen te luisteren, omdat ik beng ben dat het vals gaat worden. Hopelijk zal ze gaan groeien met haar zang en weet ze mij over een aantal shows weg te blazen. Qua toneel vind ik Pamela erg goed. Hierin is duidelijk te zien dat ze flink wat jaren ervaring heeft.
Een hele leuke, goeie casting vind ik Bill als de Tovenaar. Bill is een hele leuke verschijning en speelt zijn rol erg goed. De timing van zijn danspasjes laten nog wat te wensen over, maar dat komt zeker wel goed.
Dr. Dillamond wordt gespeeld door Jochem. Jochem is voor mij ook een nieuw gezicht in de musicalwereld. De rol van Dr. Dillamond speelt hij goed. Ik was niet totaal overdonderd door deze rol, maar dat heeft absoluut niets te maken met de kwaliteiten van Jochem.
Naast deze hoofd- en bijrollen is de musical helemaal niets zonder het ensemble. Wat een stel toppers zijn dit. Stuk voor stuk spelen de hun eigen track met volledige overtuiging. Het fijne aan dit ensemble is dat iedereen een eigen kostuum heeft en dus iedereen heel goed te herkennen blijft.
De kostuums bij deze musical zijn sowieso prachtig, evenals de decors. Het allermooiste aan deze musical is toch wel de muziek. Deze overdonder mij nog steeds, ondanks dat ik de cd al helemaal grijs heb gedraaid.
Een ander compliment gaat naar Martine Bijl, die de vertaling van de musical op zich heeft genomen. Omdat ik de cd al heel goed kende, was ik heel bang voor de vertaling. Hoe je het ook went of keert, Engels blijft toch een fijnere taal om naar te luisteren in liedjes, maar Martine heeft de vertaling absoluut fenomenaal gedaan.
Inmiddels heb ik deze prachtige musical al drie keer mogen zien. Omdat ik de show nog niet geheel van binnen tot buiten ken, kan ik geen opvallende dingen voor jullie opnoemen. Wel kan ik zeggen dat gedurende de try-outs enkele aanpassingen zijn geweest in de teksten. Vooral in het spel van Chantal zijn enkele aanpassingen geweest. Wat het was en nu is heb ik niet geheel onthouden.
Een mooie anekdote is misschien wel de slipper van Jim in de allereerste try-out. Tijdens een scene in de tweede akte staat Jim met een geweer in zijn handen en richt deze van de één op d andere persoon. Op het moment dat hij deze beweging maakt, glijdt Jim weg. Hij blijft op beide staan, maar blijft tot wel ongeveer 5 keer toe uitglijden. Het mooie om te zien was dat hij serieus en in zijn rol bleef. Maar toen hij een stap opzij moest doen en weer meerdere malen uitgleed verschenen op de gezichten van alle acteurs een brede glimlach. Hierna werd de show, uit veiligheidsoverwegingen, toch maar stil gelegd.
Tijdens de tweede show waren er maar slechts twee poppen bij het Tovernaarstheater, wat al snel werd verminderd tot één. De andere moest snel het podium weer af nadat zijn pak openscheurde.
Ik ‘vrees’ dat ik deze musical heel vaak ga zien. Hopelijk kan ik jullie de komende tijd gaan vermaken met diverse blog over deze musical. Persoonlijk hoop ik heel veel understudy’s te zien in deze musical, want ik ben heel erg nieuwsgierig hoe de andere de rollen zullen spelen.
