Jamai gaat een rol vertolken in de musical Grand Hotel en vertelt ons iets meer over deze bijzondere productie.
“Het gaat over een grand hotel in het oude Berlijn in 1928. In dat hotel gebeurt van alles: Mensen komen, mensen gaan. Arm en rijk kruizen daar door elkaar.” In deze musical zullen vele verhalenlijnen elkaar kruizen.
Jamai speelt een baron en woont al 7 jaren praktisch in het hotel. “De baron heeft eigenlijk helemaal geen geld meer, maar steelt in het hotel om zijn reputatie hoog te houden.”
Het decor vindt Jamai ook erg bijzonder. “Het hotel is ons decor, dus we hebben heel weinig nodig om dit stuk te kunnen spelen. De mensen die naar de voorstelling komen kijken zullen het gaan meemaken.”
De repetities zijn nu twee weken bezig en over anderhalve week moet alles klaar zijn. “De repetities zijn erg goed. We zijn ondertussen door het hele stuk heen en we hebben nu de tijd om alles fine te tunen. En dat komt wel goed”.
Jamai vindt het erg fijn om met de studenten van het Fontys Conservatorium Tilburg samen te werken. Hij leert ook nog van deze studenten. “Het leert je scherp te blijven.”
Volgens Jamai is Grand Hotel absoluut de moeite waard om te komen kijken.”Het is totaaltheater. Vanaf het moment dat je binnenkomt zit je in het verhaal, letterlijk, want het gebeurt om je heen. Het is 360° theater in een heel bijzonder grand hotel.”
