Vanavond ga ik mijn eerste musical van mijn trip naar Londen bezoeken: The Lion King!
Wie ken het verhaal van The Lion King niet. Het lieve leeuwenwelpje Simba die op een treurige wijze zijn vader verliest en vlucht. Terwijl zijn oom Scar het rijk overneemt en er een pijnhoop van maakt. Maar een verhaal met een happy end.
De opening van de musical bezorgt mij al een brok in mijn keel. Diverse dieren lopen over het toneel en door het publiek. Een prachtig gezicht en met de mooie muziek die het nog beter accentueert wordt het nog meer bijzonder.
De rollen worden gespeeld door zeer goede acteurs. Het mooiste vond ik Timor en Zazu. Voor deze personage zijn volledige poppen gebruikt welke ‘bestuurd’ worden door mensen. Omdat de aandacht veelal bij de poppen is het nog prachtiger om te kijken naar de gezichtsuitdrukkingen van de acteurs achter deze poppen. Deze leven als nog heel erg mee en blijven als persoon ook heel erg in de rol.
Het decor is bij deze musical heel erg mooi. Wie kent niet de beruchte scène in de kloof met al die hyena’s? Deze is in de musical verwerkt tot een prachtig decorstuk. Hierdoor waan je je als publiek in de kloof zelf.
De zangkwaliteiten van de artiesten vond ik niet gigantisch bijzonder. Eén van de weinige momenten dat ik echt genoot van een solonummer was de reprise van ‘He lives in you”.
Al met al een mooie show. Op naar de volgende!
